Districts
The Cape Fear Council serves youth across 8 counties broken up into Districts. The Districts are divided as follows:
- Lumber River: Scotland, Robeson, and Hoke Counties.
- Lakes: Bladen, Brunswick, and Columbus Counties.
- Coastal: Pender and New Hanover
What Is a Scouting District?
A district is a local area within the Cape Fear Council, Scouting America, created to help make Scouting strong and successful in every community we serve. Each district brings together volunteers, families, and community partners to support Cub Scout packs, Scouts BSA troops, Venturing crews, and Exploring posts in their area.
Districts are where Scouting happens close to home where youth and families find friendship, adventure, and opportunities to grow into their best future selves.
How Districts Work
Every district is guided by a team of dedicated community leaders and volunteers known as the District Committee. At the heart of each district is the Key 3:
- District Chair – a community volunteer who leads the district committee
- District Commissioner – who provides direct support and coaching to unit leaders
- District Executive – a professional staff member from the Cape Fear Council who helps coordinate Scouting programs and outreach
Together, this leadership team works to grow Scouting, strengthen local units, and ensure that every Scout has access to a high-quality, values-based program.
The Role of the Council
While the Cape Fear Council provides overall guidance, resources, and outdoor programming, each district carries out these programs within its local communities. Districts help with:
- Starting and supporting new Scouting units
- Providing training and resources for volunteer leaders
- Organizing local events, campouts, and service projects
- Connecting families with opportunities for adventure and leadership development
The ultimate goal of every district is to make Scouting available to more youth and deliver fun, adventure, and lifelong skills to every Scout in our region.
