Introduction to Outdoor Leader Skills (IOLS)
IOLS is the hands-on training required for all Scouts BSA leaders to safely and confidently guide youth in outdoor adventures. Participants learn camping, cooking, navigation, first aid, knots, and other essential Scout skills while discovering how to teach these skills to youth. Completing IOLS ensures adult leaders can deliver a high-quality, outdoor-focused Scouting program.
Spring IOLS RegistrationBasic Adult Leader Outdoor Orientation (BALOO)
BALOO is the introductory outdoor skills training for Cub Scout leaders. This overnight experience covers everything from planning a safe and fun pack campout to outdoor cooking, program ideas, and youth protection. At least one BALOO-trained adult is required for any Cub Scout overnight activity.

Wood Badge is Scouting America’s premier leadership training for adult volunteers and professionals. Over two immersive weekends, participants explore advanced team development, servant leadership, and communication skills—applying lessons from Scouting’s best leadership models. Graduates return to their units energized, inspired, and equipped to make a lasting impact on youth.
Wood Badge RegistrationClimb On Safely
Climb On Safely is the required safety orientation for any Scouting activity involving climbing or rappelling. The course provides guidelines for supervision, equipment, facilities, and qualified instruction to ensure a safe and positive climbing experience. Every climbing event must have at least one adult trained in Climb On Safely.
Merit Badge Counselor Training
Merit Badge Counselor Training prepares adults to serve as mentors and guides for Scouts earning merit badges. Participants learn how to encourage learning, foster youth independence, and maintain program integrity while following Scouting America’s advancement policies. Counselors play a key role in helping Scouts explore interests, develop skills, and achieve their goals.
